Dr. Chen came to Palmer Seminary in 2004 after earning her Ph.D. from Fuller Theological Seminary. She loves the classroom and enjoys writing for the church. After publishing her dissertation, God as Father in Luke-Acts, she turned her attention to making biblical scholarship intellectually accessible and spiritually edifying to the laity. In Let Me More of Their Beauty See: Reading Familiar Verses in Context, she encourages readers to rethink what they have always thought to be the meaning of some familiar and cherished passages. Her most recent work is a commentary on Luke (2017) in the New Covenant Commentary Series. She has also written a variety of exegetical essays and commentaries on lectionary texts, and contributed to Abingdon Press' Covenant Bible Study, a set of discipleship resources for churches. In 2018, she received the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching at Eastern University.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Dr. Chen has spent the last four decades on both coasts of the United States and still calls California home. She lives in Penn Valley, PA, and is an ordained elder of Narberth Presbyterian Church.
