I am assistant professor of Sacred Scripture at Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology. My work focuses on the study of Pauline theology and early Christian soteriology by comparison with Hellenistic Jewish, Greco-Roman, and early Christian literature.
I am currently working on a monograph, funded by a Templeton grant and a USCCB/Catholic Biblical Association grant, tentatively entitled Forgiveness, Faith, and Justice in Early Christianity. It will explore the development of the early Christian ethical idealization of forgiveness of others from its roots in Hellenistic Jewish sapiential traditions, the relationship between human and divine forgiveness, and the relationship between forgiveness and faith in New Testament soteriology and ethics. I will devote the majority of my 2020-2021 sabbatical year to this project.
