Shin holds a PhD in theology/constructive studies in religion from the University of Chicago, where he was a recipient of a Martin Marty Fellowship and was a Lilly Fellow in practical theology and religious practices at Emory University. He has a MDiv in theology from Yale University Divinity School, a master’s in educational ministries—with an emphasis on intercultural studies—from Wheaton College Graduate School and a bachelor’s in Christian education from Wheaton College.
Shin has written the essay, “Scripture as Sacrament,” and the book, Following Jesus: Hans w. Frei on Hermeneutics, Christology and Theological Method, which is due to be published next year. He also presented the paper, “World Christianity and Theological Method,” at the 2016 gathering of the American Society of Missiology in St. Paul, Minn.
In addition, Shin has lectured in Vladivostok, Russia and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan in service to the Eurasia Central Conference of the United Methodist Church. An ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, Shin served congregations in Illinois, Connecticut, Georgia and Seoul, Korea.
